Bio-Security Priorities
The previous sections have identified 32 priority INNS and fish diseases for inclusion in the ERFT Bio-security Plan of which 19 high priority species will be the main focus for action (Table 3). The priority species were identified as those that:
- If introduced would have severe consequences for local bio-diversity and economy
- Have a high risk of introduction due to nature of the pathways for their introduction and their current geographic proximity
- Already exist within the Esk district.
Table 3 - Priority (P) and High Priority (HP) Species
for Action in the ERFT Bio-Security Plan
| Present (HP) | High Risk of Introduction (HP) | Low to Medium Risk of Introduction (P) |
|
American Mink Canadian Pond Weed Nuttal's Pond Weed Japanese Knotweed Himalayan Balsam Giant Hogweed Rhododendron Rainbow Trout Minnow A S Crayfish Red Vent Syndrome |
Gyrodactylus Salaris Giant Mitten Crab Slipper Limpet Zebra Mussel Curly Waterweed Australian Swap Stonecrop Orfe Ruddy Duck |
Water primrose Water fern Slipper limpet Didemnum Tunicates / sea squirts Wireweed Ruffe Bullhead Common cord grass Large flowered waterweed Floating pennywort Parrot's feather Fanwort Asian topmouth gudgeon |
The plan will require to identify stakeholders and actions associated with the prevention, detection and rapid response to the introduction of those priority INN species not present in the ERFT catchments as well as for the mitigation, control and eradication of those species already present.
